Did you know that peanuts are not actually nuts, but legumes and are thus related to peas and beans. Peanuts are also called monkey nuts or groundnuts.

Why groundnuts?

The fact that a 100% natural peanut butter really only contains peanuts and has no other oils added, can be confirmed by checking if the oil that is naturally present separates from the solids.

Oil separation is not a bad sign, but a very good one, as it indicates that the peanut butter in question is truly natural and free of artificial additives, stabilizers and oils that would make butter homogenous. 

Oil separation is therefore a natural process and a testament to the high quality of peanut butter. Before using, simply stir the oil in the butter and you are ready to go.

  • If you want a looser or denser butter, play around by mixing different proportions of peanut oil and butter.
  • For a uniform, homogeneous mix, mix the oil in the butter and place in the refrigerator. This will make a thicker peanut butter, but will prevent the separation.
  • If you want to prepare a sauce, which should be more liquid, take a smaller amount of butter and a little more oil that has separated. Mix and a pourable sauce is ready.

 It is also very important to note that natural peanut butter does not contain sugar, as this is usually more harmful than healthy for the body. The natural peanut butter thus contains NO sugar, making is much healthier choice.

After opening, it is recommended you keep the peanut butter at room temperature, up to 25 °C, which will make it easier to spread.
