Tapioca flour is obtained from cassava (Manihot esculenta), a tropical plant also known as manioc and yuca. It is a cultivated plant that is popular among poor populations, as it is easy to cultivate and grow. Flour is obtained from the plant’s tubers, which have a very high starch content.

Tapioca flour is used to thicken various foods such as soups, sauces and puddings. Tapioca starch is activated at lower temperatures, so thickening dishes with tapioca is fast. Add it to sauces and soups at the very end. Tapioca flour can also be used to make tapioca balls, which are particularly popular in desserts.
