Magnesium – an important element that is (too) often lacking

Several studies show that magnesium deficiency is very common.

Magnesium is the fourth most common mineral in the human body. It is contained in every cell, however, we often do not consume large enough quantities of magnesium through food. Natural magnesium

Magnesium is actually a metal, but it is never found in nature as a single element. It is always bound to other substances, such as amino acids. Plants are a good natural source, but you need to opt for those that contain enough magnesium to cover your daily allowance.

Which part of the plant contains the most magnesium?

Magnesium is the element that enables photosynthesis. It is located in the middle of the chlorophyll molecule. As we know, chlorophyll is found in green plants. The Ulva lactuca algae is wonderfully and vibrantly green - achieving such a color requires a lot of magnesium, which enables photosynthesis.

Why seaweed?

Ulva lactuca is a seaweed or a type of sea lettuce with green leaves that are strongly reminiscent of the usual salad from the garden in terms of shape and color. It is one of the most important foods from the sea. This seaweed might also be considered as sea vegetable.  

It contains important and very nutritious substances. This green algae thus contains iron, vitamin C, vitamin B12, lots of dietary fiber and protein. It is often used in various soups, such as Japanese miso soup, as well as in salads.

To prevent the algae from containing unwanted substances, such as heavy metals, it is extremely important that they are organic - just like the magnesium-rich seagrass, which is the major component of Malinca natural magnesium capsules.

Using organic magnesium

The recommended daily dose of the organic magnesium dietary supplement is 2 capsules per day. Take both before a meal with some water.

Why is this magnesium different than others?

The most common supplements on the market contain magnesium oxide, which is poorly absorbed. A magnesium salt called magnesium sulfate, also a chloride, is also commonly used. As it has a strong laxative effect, it is not the best for consuming. In addition to other types, magnesium citrate, which has a better absorption, is also well-known. In terms of absorption, magnesium bound to organic compounds performs best. One such type is natural seagrass magnesium, which is part of a molecule that is easier for the body to use.

How and when should magnesium be taken?

The recommended dose is two capsules a day with water before a meal. Because magnesium has a relaxing and soothing effect, we recommend taking it before dinner.

Who is magnesium suitable for?

Magnesium is recommended for anyone with an increased need for this mineral - athletes, generally active people, all those experiencing high stress levels, pregnant women, vegetarians, vegans and those already showing signs of deficiency in form of cramps, migraines, PMS and depression and fatigue.

Can it be taken with other dietary supplements?

Does the product contain gluten or lactose?

Is it suitable for pregnant and nursing women?

How long can I take organic magnesium?

Considering that a magnesium deficiency is common and food often does not suffice to cover all the magnesium needs, it is unlikely to consume excessive amounts. We therefore recommend taking a supplement regularly. For regular needs, we recommend taking 2 capsules a day. Athletes and active individuals require more magnesium, so we recommend they take 3 capsules a day. 

Can I open the capsule and only take the powder?

In case you have trouble swallowing the capsules, they can also be opened and the contents taken with liquid. From what age onwards can it be taken? Organic magnesium can be taken by adolescents from 14 years onwards.

Does it contain citrate?

Magnesium is completely natural and is derived from seagrass, meaning that the supplement does not contain citrate, which is an artificial form of magnesium.

Why is natural magnesium better than synthetic?

In nature, magnesium never occurs as a stand-alone element, but is ingested with food. When ingested from plants, a large number of organic compounds and phytochemicals provide a synergy effect that allows the body to utilize magnesium fully. Artificial forms are usually poorly absorbed or act as a laxative, which is an undesirable effect for many.

Why do you recommend 2 capsules a day (225 mg)?

Can you overdose? What happens if you take too much magnesium?

Given that magnesium is often consumed in quantities that are too small rather than too big, overdosing is rare. If, however, it does occur, people with kidney failure are the most exposed. The kidneys expel excess magnesium from the body. Symptoms may be nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, shortness of breath and very low blood pressure; however, this is extremely rare and, as we’ve mentioned, related to other medical conditions. It is also more likely if you take certain types of artificial magnesium. Natural magnesium has a more holistic effect on the body and these side effects are extremely unlikely.

Does magnesium affect digestion?

Artificial magnesium can act as a laxative, i.e. cause diarrhea. With natural magnesium, this is less likely, except for very sensitive people who may experience softer stools. This is much less likely to occur than with artificial versions of magnesium. Sensitive people are advised to slowly increase the dose to allow their body to adapt.

How long does it take to see results?

If you suffer from cramps, the results can be seen very quickly, already after three days. For long-term effects or result, you are advised to persist for at least a month and then continue with the treatment.
